The new black: "Foreclosures"

To compare real estate to fashion, I'd say "Foreclosure" is the new black! It's all the rage for investors. Even Donald Trump is hosting a program that his real estate Jedi's will teach you how to buy foreclosed property for pennies on the dollar. Intrigued, I attended one of the free seminars at a snazzy hotel ballroom on International Drive in Orlando. Plus, I thought it might be a good way to meet investors that might need a local representative in the Orlando real estate market.

Upon entering the ballroom, there were giant banners of Mr. Trump everywhere. "Foreclosure Fortune!" one sign proudly exclaimed. On another, there was a picture of "The Donald" in his library, sporting a chesire cat grin with his hand on his chin in a thoughtful pose. Say what you want about him...but I love his style & books. He talks truth and trash. More than his gossip, I love how he's used leverage to build fame and fortune. To be larger than life and show it!

The Trump sponsored seminar was filled with all ages and walks of life. From seniors, to Millenials, to the vintage sorority girls (like myself), we all were there for the message. The lights dimmed and music began to play. A power point presentation lit up with an an inspiring quote from Mr. Trump. "If you are going to have to think anyway...you might as well Think Big!" Classy. I like it. This is going to be good, I think.

Suddenly, a cream colored suit jumped out from the crowd like a late night infomercial host for mops that suck. He paces the stage, wave's his arms and shouts, "How are we doing?" Cricket. Cricket. "Awwww come on people. How are we DOING?" Grumble. Mumble comes from the room. "Do we have any Real Estate Sales people in the room?" he asks. I say nothing afraid that I'd be called upon to play "The Price Isn't Right!" One woman raises her hand. The bubbly host says, "Why are you here?" She says she's wants to be successful in real estate like Trump. (Me too, sister! Did you pledge Pi Beta Phi at the University of Tennessee, too?)

After a long intro, the host yammers about how wealthy he is and how his daughters are state gymnasts (who cares!), and how he went from zero to hero with Trump's program. Blah. Blah. Blah. Get on with it!

Finally! He gets to the good stuff and here it is...Trump believes we are in the perfect storm within the real estate cycle. The slide read "High housing inventory + low prices + low interest rates = Wealth." Shazam! Like the hand of God touching Adam, that slide said it all in a simple formula about why you should consider buying real estate today.

Mr. Trump, "Your Hired."
